Where are people buying their ePub files from these days? I like the Kobo device I now how. But I want to avoid buying from a store that locks me to a device ecosystem. That is, replacing Kindle store for Kobo store just locks you to another platform. I'm happy with DRM ePub files, as long as I can take them between systems.

Good morning! I have been happily using headscale (self hosted implementation tailscale's management service) for some time. An update was over-due but I was struggling to get things working in a satisfactory way. And I didn't like that my set-up wasn't portable (a lot of manual set-up is required). This led me to plan out what my ideal headscale project would look like: * Everything runs in docker * Containers for headscale, headscale-ui, and caddy * Re-implement user...

After a 2.5 year hiatus, I have managed to write a new blog post. This one is about: Updating TrueNAS Scale when it isn’t installed on the boot drive (HP Proliant Microserver Gen8) As with most of my blog posts, this is more of a reference for myself than anything else. But I'm happy if it is useful for others. https://myrant.net/2026/04/03/updating-truenas-scale-when-it-isnt-installed-on-the-boot-drive-hp-proliant-microserver-gen8/ #TrueNAS

Just my luck that Untappd is unavailable (just for me?) when I want to check in this tasty hazy IPA. Drinking Glasshouse by Zebra. Refreshing on this sunny afternoon in Wellington.

Moved on to Shadows and Dust by Stonehouse Brewery. A light and quaffable session ale. The Boot Micropub in Wellington really is my type of place :)

Crappy mood today. Cheered myself up by watching Scary Movie. Good to see my dumb sense of humour hasn't changed in the last 26 years.

Anybody use a self hosted object storage solution that is S3 compatible? Ones I'm pondering are MinIO or Garage. #selfhosting

Going back even further (7th January 2012)! I sucked at keeping a journal at the best of times. Seems I haven't written anything in that book since 2021 :| Reading these two entries makes me glad that I did write something occasionally. Maybe I'll get back to it this year (no promises) and even play with fountain pens again. #journal #memories

I have a #homeassistant automation that is dependent upon the system knowing the state of #tado geofencing of "home" or "away". Using the Tado API, Home Assistant can check the state of geofencing for each TRV in the house. In recent months Tado has restricted the free use of their API. Resulting in periods of no data. Last night one of those periods of no data coincided with when the automation was due to run, and thus failed when it couldn't get a...
