  I think I've worked out what was wrong with my VMs on Fedora 44. Looks like the firewall rules that Docker sets up do not play well with the ones libvirtd adds.   Friday night and another arsehole who doesn't understand that the only thing that Open Source guarantees you is the source, if there is a problem then you are totally free to fix it yourself but you shouldn't get pissy when others don't have the time or motivation to do it for you

  The "spare" drive is plugged into the USB port on the back of Dad's NAS, Backup is started, now opening the pool on how long it will l take to push 1TiB over USB 2.0 to the disk (still probably quicker than over the broadband). Will I get to pull the old disks out before next weekend (and then how long will it take to populate them one at a time)

  Hmm, Just wondering about a possible bug with the quote toot feature. I'm seeing quotes with the pending message, but the quoted toot shows up in the Federated timeline before the quote toot before it is approved for the quote. Now this could just be a timing thing on my instance, but I wonder what happens if the original author denies the quote, does that still leak it to the quoter's followers? With a low enough volume on the Federated Timeline this is pretty obvious #masto...

  28 hours later the scanning of the files has finished and it's finally started to push the 1.6TiB over the USB 2.0 interface to the disk. This may take a while (if my maths is vaguely right, probably looking at ~50-60 hours)

  Anybody got a UGreen NAS? Do recent firmware have a built in remote backup capability that supports S3 buckets as the target? I see conflicting messages online so want to check? E.g. early suggests no capability and others saying they have restic support. #homelab #nas #ugreen

  hmm, does mosquitto not support bridge mode with MQTTv5? Trying to bridge from EMQX to mosquitto 2.1.2 with MQTTv5 and bridge mode enabled and it fails with "protocol error" Turn the protocol down to v3.1.1 and it woks #mqtt #mosquitto #emqx

  Having built a solution around mosquitto auth plugins, working out how to migrate to something new, I need to reuse the same underlying mongo db that has the credentials stored in it. Both of the plugins could could work with the existing database, but I don't think there is a current plugin that supports the latest mosquitto Best thought so far is to move to EMQX and make use of the HTTP auth and write a little server to handle the auth look up #mqtt

  TIL That Mastodon's media cache is LOTS of small files in LOTS of directories. When presented by this, Synology's HyperBackup is VERY slow to walk them all to decide if they have been changes & need pushing to the S3 bucket setup as a back up location. It took 14hrs to push 99GiB yesterday. I added another couple of directories (totalling an additional 1.5GiB) and it looks like it's going to take another 14hrs to check again. Need to keep this in mind for Dad&a...

  OK, scary time. The backup finally finished (and threw a load of bad sector warnings) Time to actually pull the fist drive out of the NAS and put in the new much larger one. #homelab

  When are @mikrotik finally going to remove the force "admin" user on the web login page? I've disabled the admin user, having it override my password manager and have to remove the default every time is a real pain in the ass. Have it check if admin is active first or make it a checkbox to no default please. #MikroTik
