Webb Pierce's "Nudie Mobile" (customized by Nudie Cohn, of Nudie Suit fame) and Elvis's 24-Carat Cadillac at the Country Music Hall of Fame. #WeirdCarMastodon

Pretty good spot on our last morning in Nashville #WeirdCarMastodon

Our time in Tennessee is at an end, so after 750+ miles of seat time here's a #RentalCarReview of our ride for the week: a 2026 Genesis G70! On the positive side, the engine is a nice one. Smooth, quiet, plenty powerful, and fairly efficient—we saw a high of 31.6 MPG. The transmission is generally good, too, and the acceleration curve doesn't have the dead spot I've encountered in other H-K-G cars. Speaking of the Hyundai gene pool, this one feels less gimmicky than most...

Nice to come home to new goodies! In this case, my quartet of ’90s minivans were waiting to be assembled. There were a couple of hiccups—I made some dumb design mistakes on the Aerostar and Villager, but nothing a little patient massaging couldn't cure. Delightful details include the yellow pinstriping on the Mercury, and the picnic table inside the VW. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale

A Volvo 850 wagon has been abandoned along a route I frequently drive. I assume typically once the city gets around to removing abandoned cars, they get scrapped...but what if it just needs to be rescued by the right person?? #WeirdCarMastodon

One of these is not like the others...an interloper has crashed my ’90s-palooza. Can you find it? #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale

I did a quick audit of the #164scale cars I've made to date, and these two are apparently the most representative of my output. My most common countries of origin are Germany and Sweden (27.7% each), most common decade is the 1980s (32.1%), and my most common colors are blues and reds (19.6% each). #WeirdCarMastodon

Mostly non-02s as seen at today's Bay Area 02 (as in BMW 2002) show. #WeirdCarMastodon

Grocery store had restocked Hot Wheels. They didn't have the new one I'm looking for (Cadillac Celestiq), but they did have this guy, and I feel obligated to buy anything Corvair-adjacent, no matter how ridiculous. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale

I'm currently working on the second of what will be four 1:64-scale ’90s minivans. So far I have a ’91 Ford Aerostar Eddie Bauer and am in the middle of a ’93 VW EuroVan; the third will be a ’96 Chrysler Town & Country. But I'm second-guessing what I'd planned for the fourth one. Originally I intended to do a ’96 GMC Safari, but yesterday, something a little funkier popped into my head: a Mercury Villager Nautica edition. But are two yuppie clothing-themed Fords...

Happy 5/25! Here's a nightmare scenario: in Virginia, even a facelifted E39 525i wagon (in the same color as mine, but two years older) can be old enough for antique license plates now. That means that if I'd kept my first E39 wagon, an ’01 525iT, and stayed in Virginia, where I lived at the time I bought it, it would now be eligible. It was only seven years old at the time! Anyway, this one looks pretty nice, rude license plates aside. #WeirdCarMastodon https://washingtondc.c...

My most evergreen old Blipshift shirt design has been trotted out again, and will be available all week. Last day of the sale is my birthday, so if you want to get me something, I do get $1 per shirt sold... #WeirdCarMastodon https://www.blipshift.com/products/leadfoot-to-temptation-iii-2

Walk in the Berkeley hills today. Good color/stripe combo on this Land Cruiser; I hope the color-matched Benz and Volvo belong to the same person #WeirdCarMastodon

Okay, new arrival made it! And the experiment, which involved thickening the spindles the wheels attach to, seems to have been a success, so I'll make that change to other models printed in color going forward. That puts this ’78 242 GT into a long tradition of my design advances being made on Volvos. My first car designed to snap together was the other weird ’78 two-door Volvo, the 262C Bertone. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale

Just remembered the dude I saw the other day who had a crossed flags tattoo on his arm, walking across a parking lot to his yellow Corvette convertible, into which he legit hopped over the closed door to get in before tootling off. Man, that guy was living his best life. #WeirdCarMastodon

Three new arrivals! The Saab 9-5 and Ford Flex are recent designs; the Buick Regal TourX has a 2024 date stamp on its base, so it's been in printer purgatory for a long time, but it finally made it into the real world. #WeirdCarMastodon #164scale #3Dprinting
