Gotta love Broadcom. Several examples are now making circles, where ex. VMware users are getting contacts from them, telling they're having a win-back campaign with incredible offers. Just how stupid they think we are? When they started to squeeze blood from stone, having to move to something else cost time and money for a lot of companies. Small businesses and hobbyists got shafted even harder. Now that their customers have gone elsewhere, there's been increased interest, development...

Sigh, looks like the Snap version of #freecad is still broken on #Ubuntu Earlier a KDE snap distro package broke it in a way it didn't even start any more. Now it starts but most work benches don't work and the UI is messed up. Reverting the KDE framework package kf6-core24 back to revision 36 fixes it again.

Project leading is one of wildly different things about other countries. In Finland I've learnt to have pretty extreme freedom at least in the IT. I tell how long what I'm going to do takes and inform the higher ups when I'm done and if there's something noteworthy about it. Other than that I'm free to work as I want. For about a month I've been working with a foreign customer and it's been a culture shock. Basically I get 2-3 phone calls a day, where I'm asked...

Looks like LG is having bit of a #privacy disaster after adding a TOS clause about the user having to inform all their guests that their TV or monitor will listen in with its built-in microphone and it will be analyzed elsewhere. I'm sure this will sell a lot of new TVs. And in general, just unplug the smart TVs unless you really want to use their shitty build-in apps. #enshittification Edit: added a picture of their TOS, the picture is making rounds in various social medias.

I had someone cold-call me and they asked me of what I do. I give the brief of the various IT related services I provide. To this the caller goes "Oh so you're a nerd!" with a tone of voice that suggested it was supposed to be a next level joke. There's a lot of things you can call people to their faces. I however probably wouldn't go for something that's pretty widely used as a slur, especially dismissive one like that.

The good old aspie information hoarding loop. Start with "what the hell is Brimful of Asha about?!", end with unhealthy amount of Bollywood trivia.

Le Bureau, S05E01. They're hacking into someone's phone. The phone is apparently running VMWare. Also the hacker legend seems to do it from Powershell. #hacking

I've always been fascinated how people think that becoming a movie quote soundboard makes them somehow sound competent. Today's special mention goes to "I don't want to hear excuses". Excuse are a valid thing. Sure, you can scream at a kid's face that their excuses are bad, but in general when an adult gives you a reasonable excuse for something that was not done, telling them you don't want to hear excuses does not make you seem like a cool person. It makes you se...

I just wanted to share with ya'all the level of pure hate I have towards WhatsApp audio calls. Every time I get a work call from abroad with WhatsApp, I already start with a groan as I know it's going to be just one confusing misery. I'd take written conversation over that any time.

One of those "shit I'm old" moments. My Reddit account turned 18. It can now go and get shitfaced in a bar. My IMDB account again is old enough to adopt a kid, get into the not-for-stupid teens bars and so forth.

Gotta love the innocent data mining in various online services. You don't need to give us anything but... ... if you give us all your contacts, we can tell you which of your friends are here! ... if you tell us your birthday, we can congratulate you on your birthday! ... if you agree to receive our newsletter, you won't miss the best deals! ... if you add your friends to this service that is not social in any meaningful way, you'll know what your friends are up to here! #privac...

Just an #infosec FYI of #peertube - there's another apparently critical vulnerability out there for it but the exact details are not released at the moment, just that you should update ASAP. https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/releases/tag/v8.2.2

Nordealla aivan oivaa markkinointia. "Käytä luottokorttia ihan hirveästi tänä kesänä, saat siitä jonkun väsyneen pennin takaisin!" "P.S. Älä käytä niin paljon luottokorttia ettet pysty maksamaan takaisin."

This just needs a lot more outrage than it's getting. If there's a possibility that stuff we "bought" will cease to be available, there should be law to save a local usable copy of it. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2026/06/sony-erases-digital-content-from-libraries-were-reminded-we-dont-own-what-we-buy/

The utter frustration with #Signal and them rejecting the concept of a phone with personal and work SIM, that also has personal and work version of various messengers. Telegram for example has no issues with this, but I see this is just closed as "not planned" when someone brings it up. Having to jump between accounts by logging in and out or having an extra device only for Signal feels extra lame when we finally got to a spot where I don't have to keep two phones on me all the tim...

A memory of the Linux days long gone. I bought an ADSL modem that was a PCI card. Linux support was promised on the package. The "Linux support" arrived in a .zip package. It had a Word document as instructions. At that point I had a bad feeling about it and I was right. They offered a precompiled kernel module for some ancient Redhat release. That's it. I've since seen bad attempts at Linux support, but that modem still tops them all. #linux #retrotech

An app gets a new feature. It shows a popup at launch. I have no need for that feature, I choose not to turn it on. "We'll remind you later!" Fuck you, app. I said NO. I am aware they have the feature. I don't want nor need it. This will not change a month later when you show the popup again. How has this shit become acceptable? I will happily fire away 1 star reviews until the morale improves. #ux #rant

Patentti- ja rekisterihallitus jaksaa vuodesta toiseen lähettää turhaa paperiroskaa paksun nivaskan firmojen omistamisen takia. En tiedä eikö siellä ole kukaan herännyt siihen, että jos on pakko lähettää, laittaisivat .pdf:n jonka voin silmäillä läpi ennen poistamista koska mitään säilyttämisen arvoista sieltä ei yleensä tule. #suomi

I digged an old Thinkpad T410 out of my pile of Thinkpads and decided to take it to the arcade as a general use laptop for the days I don't have anything more modern on me and something needs tweaking. This specific machine had only 6 gigs of RAM, so I tried something new here. Normally I do these light but up-to-date setups with Debian and XFCE or IceWM, but since I've put Alpine into quite a few Docker containers, I wanted to see how it fares as a full installation. For someo...
