RE: https://social.lansky.name/@hn50/116258813213863492 It's not going great when stuff that worked beautifully in System 7.5, released in 1994, like drag and drop between applications or desktop, isn't working in Wayland properly.

πŸ˜‚ "To underscore the consequences of not having that kind of data, Smiley pointed to a recent attempt to rewrite SQLite in Rust using AI." "It passed all the unit tests, the shape of the code looks right," he said. It's 3.7x more lines of code that performs 2,000 times worse than the actual SQLite. Two thousand times worse for a database is a non-viable product. It's a dumpster fire. Throw it away. All that money you spent on it is worthless....

Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most important energy chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue. https://edition.cnn.com/2026/03/10/politics/iran-begins-laying-mines-in-strait-of-hormuz #Iran #IranWar

The way Gulf states were sacrificed for the glory of Israel reminds me of this old Kissinger quote. β€œIt may be dangerous to be America's enemy, but to be America's friend is fatal.” ― Henry Kissinger

πŸ’€ "However, whereas PCs typically have a rechargeable battery or removable coin cell that is used to retain configuration settings and maintain the time-of-day while powered down, Sun hardware instead uses a TIMEKEEPER device which integrates SRAM, RTC and a battery. Hence when the battery fails, the entire device must be replaced."

All my PCs had TIME /T in their AUTOEXEC.BAT so I could see how much the time had drifted from the actual time at startup because PCs have always been utter junk at timekeeping. I used teletext back then to check the actual time from a TV broadcast. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletext

I saw this on a Finnish post, so let me reformulate it a bit and post it in English. Finnish universities 1996: "Here's an operating system we created for you. Here's a chat network we created you can use with the operating system." Finnish universities 2026: "We don't know how to replace Facebook for public communications." Learned helplessness. #Linux #IRC #Finland #Suomi

🧡 Hopefully, the enshittification of Discord means we get more users back on IRC. It's been chugging along since 1988 just fine. It's decentralised and federated. No ads or other bullshit monetisation. Free from corporate influence. Oh, and there's an RFC for it, like real internet services should. If you need a Discord-like experience, sign up for IRCCloud. https://www.irccloud.com #DigitalSovereignty #IRC #Discord #Enshittification

The AI bubble currently consists of around 1.5 trillion USD (1,500 billion USD) investment. Out of that, around 1 trillion USD (1,000 billion USD) is just pure malinvestment. You can't retool GPUs that are good at FP32 into general-purpose computing. This will absolutely devastate the US economy since the US bet its economy on this becoming a success. No hashtags since I want to keep people with AI psychosis out of my replies today.

I'm happy that my instance doesn't prohibit inciting violence. It may become handy later as the collapse of the West continues. The next big one to pop is the AI bubble.

What bums me out is that BBC runs a story where pictures of clearly children 12 to 14 years old are reported as women in the story. This is how far we have fallen.

@davidgerard@circumstances.run You will not run out of content now that the #Moltbook firehose is here for us to laugh at.

Reading the Moltbook firehose makes me think that if over 1 trillion USD+ has been invested into this crap to date, then Silicon Valley is in deep, deep, deep trouble. #Moltbook #AIBubble #Tech #SiliconValley

Whatever this European tech sovereignty formulates into DO NOT give us European Big Tech. Open protocols, open standards, open source. Like the 1990s internet I enjoyed as a kid. The European governments finance the projects and largely leave us the fuck alone. No gods. No masters. ✊ #EU #Europe #EUPol #EuroPol

It is nice to see even US bougie shitlibs now understand they live in a fascist country. The question is, what are you going to do about it?
