  Big thanks to @Taweret@timeloop.cafe for a high-end Monsterdon film this week. Always nice to have a class axe once in a while. We had smoking. A lot of smoking. And, coffee. Lots of very bright red blood, splashed about liberally. Extra-dimensional slimy monsters, with tentacles. An old country recipe for coleslaw being demonstrated (handcuffs optional). Folks doing strange things with their eyes. Shotgun suicide. Old-school typewriter in use ... In short, Sam Neill visits Lovecraft's Br...

  And a big thank you to @Taweret for tonight's choice of feature. You couldn't go wrong with giant atomic insects in the 50s. I wasn't watching this one as intently, but I believe we had no smoking and no coffee. Death count of several thousand, mostly off-screen.   Big thanks to @Taweret@timeloop.cafe for tonight's choice of Mel Brooks Great Mistake. Still amazing how bad of a script got such a competent presentation. No smoking, no coffee. Mild-mannered Loc-Nar visits post-apocalyptic Earth and claims orphans for the core of a new cult. Close-up death by immolation and by sadistic robot, and likely many other deaths by collateral damage to destroying camps and stations (though the film is careful to point out that the bad guys use stun rifles). War...

  ... also noticed that Kraa! (from the same folks that brought us Zarkorr!) is on Tubi. A quick glance suggests it has better production values, though I did not see the titular creature (and did not want to spoil any future viewing). #Monsterdon

  I've recently seen it; Solarbabies does have a lot to comment on (or poke fun at) but overall it's not as entertaining as, say, Tank Girl, which covers some of the same ground. Still, it's not as bad as Vampires on Bikini Beach. I did pick it as one of my choices this week. #Monsterdon

  I've seen Wolfen several times, even managing to see it thrice in it's short theatrical run. #Monsterdon last night was not be, though. After a huge dinner the household all decided to have a quick nap. I didn't wake until almost an hour into the Monsterdon showing.

  Big thanks to @Taweret@timeloop.cafe for this fine example of low-budget 70s film. Not quite horror, not quite sci-fi, Christopher Lee and the Six Nuns carried us through roughly an hour and a half of thin plot and much padding. Much smoking, multiple coffee teases but I don't think anybody ever actually *drank* any coffee. Secret government listening post in an abandoned zoo, just for fun. Death count in the billions, which I guess is something. #Monsterdon #EndOfTheWorld1977

  Big thanks to @Taweret for tonight's film - fairly classic Universal monster of the period. It's technically well done, but is a bit dry for modern tastes. I'd be curious to read a 1943 review of it. We had smoking (both cigarette and pipe) and, unexpectedly, coffee. Casual period racism. Two human deaths, two vampire deaths. Kay was a vamp by *both* definitions, a nice twist. Also a nice twist ending.

We had a lot of exposition, little stock footage, and more than one monster. Monster(s) generated large amounts of spunk. Death count of nine. Minimal subplots. Reasonably dramatic final battle.
