We're having our best month ever with DOS Game Club in terms of downloads right now, as we've broken 12k unique monthly downloads for the first time since we started back in March 2017. It makes sense that with a growing archive, the numbers only ever increase. But I'd like to think this only happens when new people keep finding the show, so that's nice! We never made this show because we want to reach a huge audience, but it's nice to know we're not speaking into the v...

A kid pirating a game is not a "lost sale". That kid doesn't have the money to buy the game anyway. A kid with pirated games will however grow up to be into videogames, and buy a whole lot of them later in life. That money is what the game industry runs on.

I love this skit I saw today on the Dutch phenomenon of "interessantdoenerij" (literally: "doing interesting"). When someone is trying to make themselves seem more interesting than they are in order to get some attention... that's interessantdoenerij. It's very frowned up on and seen as a waste of everyone's time haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nCoNQL-I04

I just got to our storage box (we rent a storage box) and they changed the access from a key fob to an app. The key fob reader was removed altogether and I have no idea which app to even install. I swear to god, I'm this 🤏close to being a total outcast who has no understanding of society.

TIL NOFX's 2000 album "Pump Up The Valuum" opens with different lyrics, based on whether you bought it on CD, vinyl or cassette 🤯 CD lyrics: Hello, welcome to our CD Can you hear the blatant similarity to Linoleum and Shadows of Defeat? Vinyl lyrics: Hello, welcome to our disc Turn it louder, get your neighbours pissed Or turn it down, it don't matter to me Cassette lyrics: Hello, welcome to our cassette Have you started feeling some regret I guess you can&a...

My friend Albrot asked people to submit covers of songs from a list. I made three! Other people made some too, and we're going to listen to them all right now, over on https://twitch.tv/albrot Come hang out if you like!

My racing game hot take is you should start with the crazy fast vehicles and then work your way down to unlocking the slow clunkers as you progress, because driving the latter is actually way more fun and desirable than the former, so it only makes sense to have this way around.

I took part in an online event called "Coverfest" where people were invited to make covers of well-known songs. I made three! They're all as different from the original as I could manage hahah You can listen to them here if you like: https://martijnfrazer.bandcamp.com/album/coverfest-2026

I don't get all the hype, I've been a prompting engineer for 40 years!

I just looked at the stats for the DOS Game Club podcast and 2025 has easily been our biggest year yet in terms of downloads. Now this is not surprising, as simply having more episodes available tends to result in more downloads. The backlog has been responsible for most traffic for a while now. But still, 2025 saw a big growth over previous years and while we've never made this show for popularity's sake, it's nice to see people are listening!

There's this notion of "deskilling" when people use AI to do their work for them. It's honestly something I've always been worried about, even before the current AI trend. I've always had this deep fear of being too reliant on some specific app or tool, and instead always try to develop the fundamental skills to get the results I want from any tool.

Predicting the next step in programming: a specialized prompting language that takes away the ambiguity genAI. With a handful of powerful commands you can assume full control over what your app does. Iterating has never been easier. Instead of generating new code, you just make changes to what you've written. Amazing! No more guessing why your app doesn't do what you want. You'll be so productive!

In a chat I'm in some people were discussing the website of this restaurant: http://www.mrbruce.karoo.net which is apparently designed some time in the mid 2000s. Someone noticed there's a MIDI file linked in the source code. So I downloaded it and rendered it to an mp3. It's... hard to believe this is how it's supposed to sound. But also... how else should it sound? I have no answers!

Bluesky's technical director, user "why.bsky.team" is a massive AI fan and last night has blocked some 300k users that were on some "ai haters" list. And yours truly is among them 🥳

This is great: 4 days ago the YouTube channel of Merle Hazard (who had a viral hit in 2019 with his comedy song "(Gimme Some of That) Ol' Atonal Music", about the son of an atonal composer) posted an interview with Larry Schoenberg, actual son of actual atonal composer Arnold Schoenberg 😅 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK2ZBp9_hbE

Yes BlueSky is often down, but at least it's not properly decentralised so alternative BlueSky networks are also down.

I tried to log into Steam. It said it would email me a 2fa code. It then took 10 minutes for the code to arrive and when I finally entered it, it said it had expired. So I try again and it sends me a code immediately this time. Which did work. The 2nd code was, however, the exact same code as the first?? ~ c o m p u t e r s ~

My most boomer take is that I just don't understand how people can spend much time on their phone. I never "doomscroll", because I'm just not that into using a phone in the first place. If I'm not using my phone for anything specific, I find myself putting it away because being on a phone is just not that enticing to me.

I was really into Card Crawl some 10 years ago, it was my go-to phone game during commutes for a long time. So I'm very excited to learn there's now a sequel out! 🥳 https://cardcrawl2.com/
