  Keeping in touch with people still employed as software engineers and I am so thankful to have left that all behind. Being a quant developer is so much more rewarding, not just in terms of compensation, but also in terms of being able to work on the right things to make real progress on what I am working on. Having been a software engineer at a high level previously I also know how to avoid dumb mistakes as a quant.
