    For the past 2 years I&amp;#39;ve been working, with academic colleagues, to develop a #DispensingOptician #DegreeApprenticeship. It&amp;#39;s been a bureaucratically complex task that required getting IfATE (now Skills England) to edit the drafted &amp;#39;standard&amp;#39; and bring the General Optical Council (GOC) in as an EQA.     Interestingly this piece is suspiciously light on how many unfilled apprenticeship vacancies there actually are. In my domain (of #HigherEd #apprenticeships) the issue is actually an overall lack of vacancies, not that there is any issue with filling them.     It&amp;#39;s National Apprenticeship Week #NAW2026 (as if you didn&amp;#39;t already know!)     Mastodon is clearly not the place to notice that there have been massive ructions in the #apprenticeships space this week with the confirmation that funding will be removed from 16 standards, including the hugely popular #TeamLeader #OperationsManager and #CharteredManager suite. The 10 year programme to rebrand apprenticeships as an all purpose solution to #workforce skills is being rapidly unpicked as #levy funds are being redirected to reinflating a beleaguered #FE sector.

    I&amp;#39;ve been heard to note previously that my &amp;#39;resting&amp;#39; &amp;#39;surprised&amp;#39; and &amp;#39;disappointed&amp;#39; faces have, over the years, merged in to one and it&amp;#39;s this sort of stuff that&amp;#39;s caused that situation. Government depts, including those who were driving the removal of valued L7 #apprenticeship standards, were a significant part of the huge rush to &amp;#39;stuff&amp;#39; courses before the funding cutoff deadline. https://feweek.co.uk/civ...

    Got a new #apprenticeship programme approved last week! L4 #DataAnalyst is available for learners to start in September this year (and is taking applications now) and covers #AI #MachineLearning#scripting and tools and mechanisms for effective #DataManagement and control in the modern workplace. They&amp;#39;ve wiped out my fixed IP so all my #SelfHosted sites are down and the rest of the connection is intermittent at best. When you call the number in the FAQ there&amp;#39;s a message saying &amp;#39;we&amp;#39;re working really hard and will email you updates&amp;#39; before it hangs up and the main contact centre goes through to VM! Anyone got any tips to achieve a quick fix on this?

    RE: https://halo.nu/@theguardian_world_news/116119509866661572 Glad to see this, when the politicians don&#39;t (or at least pretend they don&#39;t) understand how the system works they need to be advised of that. @martinlewismse is, of course, right on this - &#39;interest rates&#39; in the current student finance system are a red-herring. The real key elements are the repayment threshold, the repayment rate and the fact that repayment is calculated on gross earnings (when they should be net...
