Thinking about a new domain+project... Anyone have the TL;DR; on self hosted fediverse software? Mastodon vs Snac vs Pleroma vs ? I'm looking for something that is super low maintenance and lightweight / easy on resources but as full featured as practical within those constraints. Back at testing whether my RDNA3 card (7800 XT) will behave itself on this system. I'm running kernel 7.1.4 (Alpine linux-stable) so supposedly there are a bunch of fixes since 6.19 -> 7.0 -> 7.1.x. We'll see. Last hour has been solid. No screen artifacts or horizontal aberrations on terminal or web browser windows. When it did occasionally work adequately before it would hard crash to a green screen on one of the monitors after about 24 hours or so. Didn't matter what ker...

To add insult to injury, the other end of the cable was Lightning and is the only way to connect the iPhone to the car in order to use Maps. And of course the crappy Lighting cable and iPhone are old enough that if you look at it more than once per minute it randomly disconnects because... Lighting... terrible connector is terrible. Fumbling around in the dark in the car at 4 AM to drive my son to the airport in the city... Not at my best and very low tolerance levels. Minor dramas. I need a na...

Spent a lot of time today playing with OPNSense (err, fighting - a while back my whining about not getting along with networking was no joke). Eventually got what I wanted to work to actually work: OPNsense as an exposed node inside a Bell Giga Hub network and routing/NAT&#39;ing to a dmz host hanging off said exposed node. I love that feeling you get when you finish tuning your Linux desktop box with everything optimized and "just so" and nothing left to mess with or install. I guess since the whole "Flatpak creating a dependency on systemd" bullshit has surfaced this week there has been some other conversations about systemd going on throughout the Fediverse. I've seen some oblique references to Debian making an effort to make OpenRC more viable as an alternate init system. That's about all I've gathered on my hit-n-run timeline surfing the last several days. Not sure if this is an official Debian project or just someone's wish list. Anyo...

Is there a &quot;trick&quot; to getting Firefox/Waterfox/spin_of_choice to actually reload images from source when you press Shift-Reload / Shift-Ctrl-R ? Sometimes it does it - most of the time it keeps reloading the same image from cache for a really long time regardless how many times you shift-reload. Closing the browser doesn&#39;t help most of the time. What am I missing? #Web #Firefox

More monkeying around with OpenBSD. I spent a bunch of time getting LXQt working but the themeing was taking too much time so I threw more ram at the VM and installed KDE. The goal was to learn about OpenBSD, not LXQT. Ha. Lots of the standard apps are there in OpenBSD but I need to find out how to get Librewolf and Waterfox going. Sometime around 2017 (IIRC) I got nostalgic for a little &quot;netbook&quot; type computer and decided, for some reason, that an HP Stream 14 would scratch that itch. These are really low spec machines, even for 2016-2017. It came with Windows 10 and the first Windows Update basically filled the disk and effectively bricked the device. LOL!
