  Some big personal news today: the second edition of my book, Developing Inclusive Mobile Apps, is now available! When I wrote the first edition, SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose were just beginning to emerge. Since then, mobile development—and accessibility—has changed enormously, so it felt like the right time for a major update.

  The bar I was at last night was playing American Cricket on the tv. And I have some questions: 1. Does Walgreens have their own American Cricket team? 2. Most of the time, the bowler just bowled, the wicket keeper caught the ball, and nothing happened. What’s going on there? 3. I thought the point was to score runs by running between bases. But there didn’t seem to be much of that going on.

  Include people with disabilities in your work. Employ them, listen to them, work with them. People with disabilities are still people. People who want the same things anyone else does. This is the kind of thing that should be implicit, but for some reason it still needs to be said. Don’t build *for* people with disabilities and then expect them to be grateful for how awesome you are.

  When used thoughtfully, hiding buttons from assistive technology users can make your app easier to understand and quicker to navigate.   I’ve been watching The Assembly. It’s a celebrity interview show, but a group interview by ND and intellectually disabled people. I can’t recommend it enough - a rollercoaster from personal and powerful to incredibly fun. The episode I just watched went from a question about eating disorders to “What’s the name of your dentist?” I can’t watch more than one episode a day because it’s just too much emotionally.   Unpopular opinion: flowers smell absolutely rank and the fact that people want their homes to smell of that is mind blowing. If I put the decomposing corpse of a fox in my lounge because I wanted everything to smell of its jizz I would rightly be sectioned. Yet i can buy decapitated plant sexual organs at Asda.
