@codemonkeymike I don't quite understand the need for a local dns... Do you mean a DDNS for when your IP changes often from the ISP? If so, DuckDNS is fantastic for that. As for the file serving, maybe look at how Steam caches work? When a device on the network has the game, it pulls from it.

    @BrodieOnLinux I have been recommending Pop since 2018, but I stopped lately... The 22.04 version does not hold-up anymore, and Cosmic won't be mature for a while. I earn a living with my computer, I can't rely on an experimental DE for production, and I need an updated OS... I am trying Debian 12 at the moment... Not bad at all! I do miss the tweaks System76 had made over Gnome though!

    @codemonkeymike In that case, the way Steam does it might be interesting to you... I have not myself dig into the inner workings, but that is basically what it achieves. As for DNS, there is probably someting you can do with a pi-hole, but not sure how it would handle ssl certificates... Could'nt you simply build a local repo and add it to sources on the machines? With prority set higher?

    @BrodieOnLinux Your planning for the forseeable future should always include one episode per week about what service did Trump cut that will destroy a critical service... I don't think you will run out of subjects

    @gardiner_bryant I thought the gamecube could be soft unlocked, like the wii...

    @losgehts @itsfoss Gaming... When did you try Linux for the last time? In 2001? I don't own a Windows computer yet I game all the time! Including tripple A games! I don't play Bungie studio games because they actively block Linux, but I don't like their games anyways. Engineering... If you need to use a perticular software and can't use a FOSS counterpart, I agree.

    @BrodieOnLinux This is it... this is the start of the year of the Linux Desktop... Be ready...

    @itsfoss why not Codium? Why use the version that has telemetry and stuff?

  • Post #3048266

    @darq_lama @itsfoss Extensions that rely on telemetry to function or what? Codium is VS Code, without telemetry...

    @famfo I disagree with your list because you forgot to mention Broadcom

    @gardiner_bryant I have one rule when it comes to managing timezones: don't do it in the backend!!! Store everything in UTC and adjust to the timezone in the frontend! Storing in local time, in a country with daylight saving time is techical suicide! (We store enterprise data, often in time series)

    @gardiner_bryant ooooh! Good news!

    @alarig Je suis curieux, après l'exode depuis Twitter, c'était la folie sur les serveurs Mastodon dont celui-ci. J'échangeais avec @valere à ce moment là qui était l'admin... Mais maintenant, plus de 2 ans plus tard, ça se passe comment en tant qu'admin? Est-ce que la croissance éclair a créé une persistance ensuite?
