Seeing the lemon tea place on Lorne Street has reminded me that when I've hit mid-afternoon, drank as much coffee as I can take but it's too early for a beer, in Asia I'd pause for an iced lemon drink or Italian soda. That doesn't seem to have taken on in Auckland.

I have two brothers - one lives near Dargaville and the other is near Tauranga. In this post, I recount most of my journey from one to the other, with a detour to Raglan. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/to-raglan

Still posting about my trip north (there are a few posts to come): this one is about my drive from Raglan to Auckland via Tauranga to visit family and friends. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/return-to-auckland-via-tauranga

I was in Auckland for the Writers festival: naturally, I had to eat and to drink the ocasional coffee: this post is all about that. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/auckland-eats

I spend a few days in Auckland eating, drinking and hanging out with mates - this post talks about what I ate, including a drink called a carajillo I had to seek out. Here's a link to someone making one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9AozGC-G98 My post: https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/more-auckland-eats

When I was up in Auckland last month, I popped over to Waiheke Island for a couple of nights. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/waiheke

I'm spacing my posts out as I'm not travelling much - this one is about my visit to the Auckland Art Gallery back in May to see the Forever Tomorrow: Chinese Art Now exhibition (spoiler: I loved it!). First, I have to get there, from Waiheke. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/auckland-art-gallery

I might have to ramp up my posting rate - I'm still posting about my Auckland trip and have another biggish trip booked for mid-August. Here's how things went after my visit to the Auckland Art Gallery, and how I spent my Sunday in Takapuna and Devonport. https://open.substack.com/pub/asbarrywanders/p/still-more-auckland

Friday was a holiday to celebrate Matariki - Māori new year, which is tied to the first appearance for the year of the Pleiades star cluster. RNZ marked the occasion by broadcasting the waiata 100 countdown (following a public vote for New Zealand's favourite songs): https://www.rnz.co.nz/life/music/2026-waiata-100-countdown I heard most of the show, almost all of the songs are familiar to me, I love many of them, have seen many performed live, but I have a personal top 7. For anyone...

I've made my first booking for my next travels - a campervan and train in an area of Australia I have not yet visited. Very much looking forward to it.

I was in Auckland way back in May. It's now near enough to the middle of July and I've finally made my last post about the visit - featuring an interesting coffee business and a chain restaurant from China. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/leaving-auckland

I take a long weekend road trip around Southland, starting in Te Anau with a look at its Vintage Machinery Museum. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/southland-road-trip

Continuing my Southland road tip, I stop in at the Clifden suspension bridge, visit my parents, miss out on coffee in Tuatapere, walk the beach at Colac bay then stay in a brewery in Invercargill. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/southland-road-trip-2

The last post from my Southland Road Trip (it should be #3!) is mainly about my wanders around Bluff, a very small town at the bottom of New Zealand. https://asbarrywanders.substack.com/p/southland-road-trip-2-0e0
