  Upside: Pain is low enough that I planted a few things in the garden. Downside: I meant to buy 2 cardinal flowers but actually bought 1 cardinal flower and one lobelia. Upside: While I was finishing up an older woman sat on my sidewalk bench and thanked me for putting it out there because her walk was longer than she intended. I love when people use the bench, the city should have many, many more of them.

  Minnesota Book Awards last night were a little weird because it's one of the only times in the last ten years or so I can remember there not being an Erdrich sister or Kao Kalia Yang in the nominations. But Sun Yung Shin got a well-deserved special award and Douglas Kearney's speech for winning poetry was excellent (shouted out anti-ICE school patrollers, fash falling on their asses, and insisting on using the word fascism instead of mealy-mouthed niceties).

  It's a beautiful day out, and I'm really glad because I just took the power chair for a 4 mile round-trip "walk" to bring meds to my kid's school.
