Minnesota Book Awards last night were a little weird because it's one of the only times in the last ten years or so I can remember there not being an Erdrich sister or Kao Kalia Yang in the nominations. But Sun Yung Shin got a well-deserved special award and Douglas Kearney's speech for winning poetry was excellent (shouted out anti-ICE school patrollers, fash falling on their asses, and insisting on using the word fascism instead of mealy-mouthed niceties).
