  Firefox Nightly just auto-updated me to the “new look” for Firefox and I… kinda like it? The frame edge around the lower part of the window is taking a little getting used to, but I’m (surprised to be) down with the overall feel.

  I just re-installed SuperDuper! (https://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html) after I somehow managed to break it. Been registered to me for 14 years, the main window informs me. That seemed like it was way too long, so I checked my logs and yep, my first logged run of it was at the beginning of August 2012. So, thanks for almost a decade and a half of backing me up, SuperDuper!

  I’d been hearing about the coal-mine protests in Germany, but this photo by Sean Gallup is the first that gave me a real sense of the titanic size of the thing and what’s being protested. Just… unreal.

  A local Food Not Bombs chapter needed a donations box for hygiene products, and put out a call that a friend passed on to me. After we worked out size and usage details, I (slowly, haltingly) built one, and delivered it today. They asked that its exterior paint be purple, and I was glad to make it so. #CommunityAction

  Live HTML in ` is now a thing in current Chrome (with a flag enabled), and people are doing wild stuff with it to “make the web fun again”! Whereas I have just used it to enhance a tool we use at work, because I am a boring stick in the mud. But an occasionally productive one.   Rather unexpectedly, a 3D printer is soon to enter my life (long story). It seems like printers are either entry-level $300-$400, or higher-end $1,000+. Is there anything worthwhile in the $750 area? This will be hobby-use only, not for business purposes or mass production. It cannot be resin for a variety of reasons, and I will not budge on this.

  It’s amazing to me how broken Threads is in Firefox, while it renders fine in Chrome. The Firefox console seems to indicate the problem is due to CORS violations blocking JS from loading, so now I’m not sure if I should be mad at the Threads development team or lax security policies in Chrome. (Yes, yes, I’m aware you all have why-not-both and road-to-el-dorado-both memes at the ready.)

  I suspect the answer to this is “no” and possibly also “dear God in Heaven no, why would you even ask for that?!?”, but: is there a #web media activity API similar to the Page Lifecycle API (https://developer.chrome.com/docs/web-platform/page-lifecycle-api) (yes, I know, Not A Standard)? Not a way to play/stop/whatever various media, but a way for a page to signal “hey, I’m producing sound” or “there’s a video playing here” or similar? Possibly also signal (anonymous) information about said me...
