Hmm, there's 100% something wrong with my #adsb monitoring setup. I'm on the flightpath to Farnborough and lots of other flights too. This should have been chock-full of flights. Wonder why, I hadn't checked this for a long time.

In this very hot weather this summer, I'm really being tempted by the inflatable kayaks...

It is time to close my account on Reddit. Not only it's a toxic place, it's only concern is to sell our input as AI slop. https://arstechnica.com/ai/2026/08/reddit-ceo-on-ai-overviews-were-still-looking-for-that-win-win/

Reasonable start on #17m #FT8 - 11 contacts in half an hour while I was also browsing Mastodon and catching up with the bad news. (There's almost never any good news, it wouldn't be newsworthy). Powerful signals from USA, got California and Arizona in the log today.

Yeah, the last thing I need in my terminal is an "AI-native ‘agentic operating system’ that sits a level above OSes" living in my tmux-replacement. Screen was too good for these idiots. #LostThePlot https://www.theregister.com/devops/2026/07/31/dev-who-gave-hashicorp-its-name-returns-with-a-faster-terminal-multiplexer/5281970

RSGB's exam analysis for 2025 PDF was an interesting read. Once more the amount of M/F ratio in the hobby is truly shocking. Also the age of the new entrants is quite shocking. An interesting read was the analysis on frequently wrong questions, I would like to do a more deep down into that personally, but the document wasn't very helpful - I'd have to somehow find out all 2025 full questions and cross-check and I'm not sure if that data i available in a suitabl...

The study is too hot and humid. The garden is too hot and humid. The kitchen is too hot and humid. Eurgh. I hate this new normal.

18MHz is quite disappointing today. I'm just casually checking the screen between meetings but it's pretty crap. Went down to 14MHz for a while earlier in the morning, it was busy, even with 50W I couldn't get a message edgeways and I don't like that so went back up to 18MHz for some peace and quiet. 8 QSOs between 05:50-08:19UTC. 3 on 17m, 5 on 20.

There's an awful amount of AI generated amateur radio slop lately. What really surprises me is the blogs and toots here. Trying to build a ham cred with slop? Why? What's the point?

Hmm, moved the Meshcore repeater to my study, next to the radios, on top of a metal cabinet, it shouldn't hear a thing, but it does. I don't see my own messages in the Public channel though, but receiving adverts and messages for now.

Yup. Looks like the reason my Meshcore node sprung to life is a station popping up in nearby Sherborne St John. This reliance of repeaters will be the downfall of Meshcore. If everyone was a repeater like Meshstatic, I'm sure I would have been able to join the wide network earlier.

Calling CQ on 80m FT8, but the band is closing. My 20m end fed is not working well, I guess after three years it's time to replace the cable.
