Heh. I've just achieved 10 gigabit Ethernet from router to my PC, via 3 10G switches. Now bring me that 5 gig fiber 😁😎😏

My #homelab #network topology. Yes, I had AI enhance the drawing - I included my original pencil drawing so you can see how crappy it is.

Dammit. As I prep for my new 5 gig fiber pipe, I've been upgrading some network things. Switches, NICs, etc. When I built my OPNSense router a few months back, I put in a Intel X540-T2 NIC not knowing that it operates at either 1 gig or 10 gig; nothing in between !!! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ #networking #homelab #opnsense

$25 grand in my pocket !! My #solar facts over two years. We are net positive in production and produce a few MWh over what we use. 1:1 net metering in #Maryland $42,000 initial investment. Total Lifetime Value: $67,228.86 Current Net Profit: $25,228.86 Lifetime clean energy generation has now avoided 345,438 lbs of CO2 emissions. A large chunk of energy goes into my personal data center, which includes a local LLM server, public information archive, and hundreds of TB of storage.

Some folks say the data center scrap won't be useful after the collapse. Like WTF do we do with soldered on HBM and NAND? Useless, right? But wait. There's more! In China, there are profitable shops that do crazy shit like making a 22GB 3080 or whatever. Well, those shops will have killer inventory after the pop. You know those Chinese ALIExpress outfits that sell old laptop GPUs on desktop cards? Shit like that? Now think about the overlap....thoughts?

Literally everything now should be #distributed, preferably across the world and not within a single country: -Power generation -Defense -Data centers -Social media -Public data -Your money -Medicine -Food production -Education In the event of war, as demonstrated in multiple conflicts today, anything #centralized is a #target. In the event of peace, as demonstrated by #fascist regimes, anything centralized is a target.

An update on my triple 2080ti on DDR3 local solar powered AI server. It's impressive for its age and the fact that I built it for $700 plus a bunch of old crap. Combined forces of older hardware works! I've got Hermes Agent running, the LLM is Qwen3.6-35B. Hermes has *read-only* access to my Google Workspace (for good reason!). The LLM can push 550w+ across the 3x 2080ti GPUs. 33GB of VRAM allows big model and big context - Home Assistant works so nicely with a big LLM. I want to d...

Local solar powered AI server build log: 07-06-2026: Assembled the core components for the first time. Had to update BIOS to make the 2080 ti work in this old board. Waiting for a couple odds and ends to arrive tomorrow, then I can button it up and begin the software work. Current spec list: * Intel Core i7-3930K CPU * Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5 Motherboard * 64GB DDR3 RAM (8 x 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-1600C9D-16GXM) * 3 x NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Blower Edition GPUs (33GB Total VRAM) * Corsair R...

Fuckin' Linux. Installed Ubuntu LTS on the AI server. Worked perfectly, all was well. Then ran an update...reboots to blank screen, but doesn't seem dead as disk i/o blinks periodically.

3 days during Maryland heat dome event. HVAC used 41kWh + 15kWh, so 56kWh with heat pumps keeping the house at 75f. My personal data center used 78kWh 😆 But it was all solar powered....and my neighbors too! #solar #heatdome #renewables #hvac #airconditioning #energy

Dear Valve: Sell the Steam Machine bare-bones - no RAM and no SSD, so people have the option to thief it from an old laptop or something. Your Super NES isn't worth the price rn. #valve #steam #games #steammachine #rampocalypse

PSA: For those roasting in Europe.... sustainable air conditioning is the answer. Yes, USA and China and such caused the mess for you. But please get over yourselves and adopt some A/C. It can be done effectively: 1. Balcony solar of ~900w (2-3 panels) 2. Inverter based window AC unit 3. A small battery unit as a buffer for clouds, etc These small window units only draw around 350w or so. They can run directly off a small balcony solar setup; after all, you really only need it when the sun...

OK so here’s my evil plan for a junk-box local AI server built from ancient DDR3 era hardware and crap I have laying around. I am stacking three blower RTX 2080 Tis for the 33GB of VRAM (I already have one in hand). I scored an Intel Core i7-3930K and X79 motherboard on eBay for ~$100 bucks and I already have 32GB DDR3 RAM that I'll thief from my old FX8350 rig. A 1000W PSU will power it, I'll power limit the GPUs. This Win10+AMD+Ollama girl will be jumping head first into Linux, Intel,...
