  Today is the last day of landline telephone connections in Finland! Elisa’s network will be switched off at midnight. Telia and DNA already shut theirs down years ago. All those old copper cables will eventually be gone for good. I’d say 1880s-2020s was a pretty good run. 📞👋🇫🇮

  Two hours until I’m back on the train to Rovaniemi. I can’t wait to go home. This is the first time I’ve travelled on my own since I got married. I’ve liked browsing nerd stores without feeling like I’m wasting her time. And I saw ‘Project Hail Mary’ last night on my own because she doesn’t want to sit through a 2:36 hour movie at the cinema. Totally understandable. But given the choice, I’d always travel with my favourite person. It’s so much nicer. 💜

  Project Hail Mary was really good though. Absolutely beautiful. Good story. Really cool sets. I liked the alien. Some of it was a little cheesy but I could overlook that because I had fun and felt emotionally invested in the characters. Most importantly, my attention didn’t drop at any point for the entire film. It’s 2h 36m long. Even ‘The Batman’ or ‘Batman Begins’ have points where I drifted. So I was impressed that PHM held me all the way through. 🍿👍🎥🚀

  If we still lived in Sydney I’d 100% be seeing Split Enz next week. Very jealous of everyone who’ll be there. Neil and Tim Finn are my favourite musical brothers.   I love corgis but had never got to spend time with one before yesterday. He’s 14 years old, slightly blind, and was utterly convinced that a ball had been hidden from him somewhere in the apartment and it was his job to find it. We had a ball, but he’d chewed it into oblivion within the first five minutes of arriving. 😄 He spent a lot of time lying on my feet demanding scratches. If I stopped he waved his tiny leg at me. Best. Guest. Ever. 💜💜💜

  I could have sworn that KAJ and 'Bara Bada Bastu' represented Sweden at Eurovision in 2024. But it was only last year. It feels so long ago. 🙁 Maybe it’s time for me to join those Mandela Effect crazies and insist that my memory is correct; it's reality which has changed somehow.

  The Guardian's Consumer Champions column features numerous examples of airlines doing everything they can to avoid refunding passengers affected by tragic circumstances. They can be so heartless. Meanwhile, because our journey home from Stockholm last month was delayed due to a cancelled flight, Finnair has offered 500€ compensation. Spending 3.5 hours in Helsinki Airport made our entire return trip cost just 50€. Seems slightly disproportionate tbh. But I’m not arguing.

  - I woke up with a headache this morning because I ate too many chips last night but didn’t drink enough water. - My main concern when recently buying a new pair of sneakers was arch support. - I’m looking forward to using the new wooden spoons we found at today’s handcraft fair. I don’t like to accept that I’m turning 40 next month but all the signs are there.😭

  I had a dream last night where I visited a shopping centre. It was by a beach, suspended on a massive structure above sand dunes. Rik Mayall was inside, doing a one-man show in the middle of an auditorium. I yelled to him ‘Rick! The People’s Poet!’ and he gave me a thumbs-up. 😢

  My wife got the Alfred J Kwak theme song stuck in her head this morning so insisted we watch the first two episodes. A magpie named ‘Grabbie’ whose habit of stealing things is explained as ‘it’s simply in their nature’ was a hell of a choice. Especially with this character design. 😑
