I don't know what's up, but... 1. There have been a lot of V-22s flying over us in Northern VA lately. 2. We have noticed an awful lot of Florida plates on the road in the area too. Given one of the units with the most V-22s is the 249th squadron based in Florida this doesn't seem like a coincidence.

I keep seeing people who were laid off from Cisco (like me) post about "turning in their blue badge". (At Cisco, a blue badge is a Cisco employee, a red badge is a contractor. Used to be that Cisco didn't really make any noticeable distinction, but apparently they got sued over that at some point so now it's a big deal). Anyway, the thing I'm wondering about is, who turns in their badges? I still have all my old badges. They've been deactivated,...

I am once again looking online for Really Cheap houses to buy in rural areas as if I will ever have a need for a safe house or anything like that. This is, of course, stupid and also actually has the potential to cause me trouble if I ever did it.

Back in 2001 I worked on Sprint ION, which was the precursor to bundled networking. It relied heavily on ATM rather than IP. It was canceled in late 2001, and with it ATM was pretty much defunct for most purposes. I kinda wonder what the Internet would look like if the ION service had caught on, and ATM networking became a backbone technology. Which may seem arcane, but it would have influenced a lot of other technologies.

Just realized I missed my opportunity to check out the entire doc repository. It wouldn't have broken anything or technically constituted sabotage, but it would have been a headache for months.

I'd say there's no apparent difference between an online job listing and an identity harvesting scam, but that's not true: the scammers care whether their online form works.

Cisco has: - laid off over 1/3 of the tech pubs team - including half the managers of that team - ignored managerial recommendations as to who could be laid off - not built a transition plan for moving task to retained employees - not communicated goals to remaining managers - not updated orgs to reflect head count loss I honestly do not believe they are going to continue supporting the Secure Firewall product. They will claim they are, but they have cut out the ability to do so.

Y'know? I love seeing a problem which absolutely would have been an urgent issue for me last week, and realizing it's Not My Problem At All right now. Not to mention there is no one assigned to handle it. By my former employer's choice.

I just learned that in addition to laying me off, Cisco laid off the one other writer in my business group who also understood how to handle REST APIs. So, yeah. I feel bad for the writer in question, but I cackled. Cisco unloaded both barrels into the company's feet. I am currently seeing tickets being closed with "No API Writer is available to resolve."

Earlier this week I observed a co-worker essentially ask AI to search for tickets assigned to me. I'm not sure which is worse - if he used AI because he uses AI for everything, or if he used it because*for no damned reason* the search function in the ticketing system is trash and can't find tickets.

I think it says a lot about the self-awareness and media literacy of US billionaires, that in "The Boys", Elon Musk identifies more with Homelander (the villain) than the character they included who was just literally Elon Musk.
