Just popped to the nearest shop from my dad&#39;s place that I&#39;m housesitting while he&#39;s on holiday, and the contrast with my own urban equivalent is quite something. 3.5 mile walk down country roads, past an apple orchard with an apiary, hawthorn hedges budding, blackthorn shrubs blossoming, ancient encrustations of bright yellow and green lichens, snowdrops emerging in the verges, muntjack deer bounding away through oak woodland, hares in the farmers&#39; fields, kestre...

The hens love being around you when you&#39;re digging up the ground in a veg patch, as they can grab all the big fat juicy worms that are unearthed, which gives them a good diet that helps them produce eggs with deep yellow yolks. Just collected today&#39;s eggs: 5 brown, 4 white and one blue.
