A fail at the National Museum of Australia’s Antartica exhibition. Apparently the phrase ‘meet amazing animals from penguins to sled dogs’ means taxidermied dogs!! I have one distraught 11yo animal lover https://www.nma.gov.au/antarctica

Last day of school holidays and it was nice to start it huddling inside from the cold watching the #WorldCup final with the 14yo. Even the 11yo was watching by the end! FIFA sucks but the game was good. Now off to enjoy the afternoon sunshine together.

I have been sewing without a pincushion and my 11yo decided we needed a hedgehog shaped one so we made it. Not sure we nailed it (the base or nose) but she’s enormously happy. Also it pleases me because I’ve always liked the Danish word for hedgehog pindsvin (literally “stick pig”) and now I have a pindsvin pincushion #handmade #felt #craft

My 11yo is learning about misuse of statistics at school and was given a news article from America about increases in welfare payments. She had to get help from her teacher because she fundamentally did not understand that people think the government helping people is bad. Oh my sweet little socialist.

It definitely feels like winter in Canberra but somehow these #tomatoes are still producing! There’s been a lack of heavy frost and the vine is right up against a north facing brick wall. The microclimate is just right. Not bad for a seedling I bought for $3 at the market in early November #GardeningAustralia #gardening

My 12yo and his friends are at that awkward age where they are rapidly catching up to us in height, feet bigger than mine but they are still very much children. Pre-teen boys get so much criticism and suspicion, but once again my oldest’s friends helped my youngest at a school wide event which can rapidly get overwhelming for her. I keep saying it cause the world is bleak but the kids are alright

Feels like 4°C this afternoon. Living room heater went on and looks like the pet heat detection system is working #CatsOfMastodon #DogsOfMastodon #canberra

Big weekend in our house. Our youngest turned 11 and we celebrated with a few friends and studio ghibli themed food. We made this cute as #Totoro cake together. We also had Haku’s Onigiri (Spirited Away), Sosuke’s sandwiches (Ponyo) and I spent ages cutting out fish shaped shortbread (The Cat returns) as we didn’t have a cutter but forgot to put them out 😂 recipes apart from cake from my #StudioGhibli cookbook. Also Soot Sprite pom-poms #kawaii

It’s #WhiskersWednesday and we gave Sweet Pea a box of autumn leaves to celebrate. She’s an inside cat and finds it interesting to sit on them. #CatsOfMastodon

We’ve been typically light on rain so I turned the sprinkler on and came back out to the local #magpie family enjoying themselves 😍 I do keep a container there for water so they are frequent visitors #gardening #australia

The longer this drags on the more I resent everyone everywhere who resisted attempts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
