  Grandma dies at the end of the chapter. The funeral service is in a Christian church -- makes sense, her surviving family appears to all be Christians, and I don't think they actually found out about her secret repressed Jewish childhood. She didn't even *remember* that version of herself until right before her death. When D and Leon are leaving the service, D looks up at the cross on top of the building, and they have this exchange in TP: D: I was just wondering which soul is at peace...

  Tangent about the suspect: TP cops say he's a crossdresser [not that politely, either]. SS cops just refer to him neutrally as a guy. I'm guessing this was a TP innovation. It would explain the femme appearance and perfume-y scent...and by PSOH:Tokyo, Akino is very overt about including LGBTQ side characters...but there's nothing femme about this guy in the one panel he's in.   Feels like this is glossing over the existence of specific anti-LGBTQ laws that had "...because it's a choice" at their foundation. Also, "these are the natural traits I was born with, and I get to be proud of them" is a theme of plenty of anti-racist and anti-ableist campaigns. You don't have to believe "this will magically end all discrimination forever" just to agree with "this is true, and it's worth saying."

  Honestly, I think it's not *that* much worse than The Secret Commonwealth. I have the same kinds of complaints about both. The big difference is, TSC leaves enough arcs on cliffhangers, you can still think "well, maybe this is building up to a satisfying end." And then TRF dashes all those hopes.
