It's only been 5 weeks since the Coronation Park Sports & Leisure Centre opened in #YEG, which includes the renovated 50-metre Peter Hemingway Aquatic Centre. I'm going to try to visit weekly, only $3.50 if I visit between 11:30 and 1300. After falling off the bouldering wall quite quickly, I purchased a chalk bag. Climbing shoes may be a future purchase but it's a great workout even if I'm only on the wall for a couple of minutes! Fabulous weightroom, and...

@elsthomson In my opinion, drug use is a SOLUTION to houselessness. I'm 100% convinced that I'd seek out addictive drugs ASAP if I didn't have a place to call home. Housing is core to our identity, survival, and well-being.

8 nights of hostel accommodations have been booked in the #CanadianRockies for mid-May. Hostel accommodation is climbing in price, but the location is spectacular, so I'll pay the fees. Jasper was in the original plan, but I'll head down through Nordegg instead, my preferred route. #roadtrip

@commonst@social.vivaldi.net I also use some of my broth when I make beans in the #InstantPot

@commonst@social.vivaldi.net I love it that making bone broth has become one of the things that I do every 2-3 months, with the assorted vegetable ends and carcasses in my freezer. Sometimes, I buy a beef marrow bone to add. The frozen cubes are so excellent to add to almost anything that I cook.

@dogfox@kpop.social I started this one and then got lured away to something else. Probably worth a restart. I'm certainly interested in Korean mountains!

@integral_toast@mstdn.ca My parents were very realistic and proactive about their shifting abilities, moving to spaces where transit was good and services were available. My dad kept his car until his death at 97, but he found younger people to drive it for him when he needed to get things. I'm trying to do the same, living right on Whyte, where all essential services are within a kilometre of my place. I love my car, a 2003 Matrix, but I've said for a long time that it's my final c...

@commonst@social.vivaldi.net During my last year in Vietnam, I was offered a full-time position, after rprecarious p/t work. However, I considered the mandatory presence in a massive-open-cubicle workspace every day, and I turned that down. I managed my marking and lesson prep SO much better from the comfort of my chair at home, during blocks of time when I had fewer interesting options available. And, I loved the free time during dayligt hurs when I did that!

@KnittingDyke@mspsocial.net One thing I eventually taught myself to do was to wear a wide-brimmed hat any time that I was going to spend the day in the sunlight. I can only imagine how uncomfortable this all is. Hope that you make it through to the other side before long.

@AnnaAnthro@mastodon.social Mister Sunshine was an excellent 2025 rewatch, and the bromance is delightful! DearX was phenomenal as well. I think my favourite triangle out of my 2025 watches was Empress Ki. #adramalunies2026 #kdrama

@blue@social.inhae.blog @mollymay5000@sunny.garden Excellent! I'm glad that you read it and enjoyed it. I don't know if the author writes in Korean, but I'd be interested to try reading it in that language. I just finished The Second Chance Convenience Store. So far, it's the best of the "cozy" Korean novels that I've read. I don't think that the genre is really my thing, but there was some interesting awareness in the book, and the scenes were familiar from my...

I got out for a walk to the farmers' market in today's spring conditions. The trees are budding, the grass is showing, and the magpies and crows are getting noisy. Winter is due to return in a big way on Tuesday. We usually have seasonal fluctuations, but our 2-week spell of weather above freezing isn't ordinary in February. I got very agitated this morning trying to recover my Apple password in order to update my software. An endlessly patient customer service rep walk...

Is anyone in #YEG interested in attending The Kitchen: Aloo Baingan (Potato and Eggplant Curry) with Chef Madan Lal at the Milner Library, Tuesday, February 24?? When I saw another veg curry class, I registered immediately, without confirming that it conflicts with my regular teaching time. If interested, let me know, and you can just sign in as me. Even when a dish is familiar to me, I love taking these classes because I always learn something new. As well, there are usually a LOT of leftovers...

@dabertime@mstdn.social It seems that folks in their later years move farther and farther into a fantasy world. Good for you for recognizing your own pain response and taking responsibility. She may not remember what you said, but you likely will.

@Apiary@mastodon.social I wish that I felt confident enough about my balance to keep skating, but with worries about bone density, it's no longer on my list. Part of the problem is that I had extended periods away from the ice. Whenever I returned, I knew that I'd be safer if I went faster, but I would start out too fearful to skate quickly. Outdoor skating is a lovely way to experience winter!

@kimlockhartga@beige.party I finally stopped buying Oreos sometime in the last few years. Probably because I just don't shop much where they are prominently displayed. I especially like the golden ones. Still, I really don't have a shutoff valve, once they're in my home.

@TheConversationUS@newsie.social I'm having great success with this approach, keeping track of what I eat, and particularly noting nutrition information about my choices. I've eaten and enjoyed a wide range of foods while losing weight. It's been much more efficient than any diet I've tried, and I see myself sustaining this. One helpful thing is that I'm getting 30 minutes of exercise most days.

@UrbanEdm@mstdn.ca @AlisonCreekside@mstdn.ca Since I've joined the party, I'm getting endless emails from all of the candidates and their supporters urging me to join the party! It would be nice if the information about online voting for the leader were a little clearer. Obviously, only a fraction of the party members will attend a national conference. It's not the kind of thing I'd go to, even if it were in my neighbourhood.
