Scenes from today’s Mother’s Day hike (4.25 mi/ 6.8km) around Lake Accotink. The leaves and flowers were beautiful; I regularly smelled roses and honeysuckle. This was a new trail for me and it felt busy, with another human almost always in sight. I was surprised a few times by cyclists who did not announce themselves. My new hydration pack worked great and my pace was ok. Proud of myself for getting out there.

Mother’s Day means it’s time to buy herbs and mulch, so I stopped at a local Nursery on the way home. Weeded the front beds and my gardenia. I will sleep well tonight! #gardening

Our 15th annual undergraduate research colloquium is now done. It was a great event and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Right as I was announcing the second round of posters, the fire alarm went off! Fortunately it ended up just being a nice 15 min break outside on a cool spring day. I ended the day at a reception for a colleague leaving for a new job. I learned so much from working with her. Lots of emotions and exhaustion tonight, but also grateful. #ProfLife
