Oopsie, this didn't turn out the way Winston had planned it, eh?! Government accepts all Covid-19 inquiry's recommendations 'in some form' https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/829095/government-accepts-all-covid-19-inquiry-s-recommendations-in-some-form Of course, the interesting part is how well and when all these recommendations will be implemented. As a #CleanAir advocate, the response to improvement of ventilation in both healthcare facilities and public buildings leaves h...

Just harvested some silverbeet for tonight's risotto. I grew this from the clean cut base of a store bought plant. Although this is not the first time I've grown something from a rootless base, it still astounds me that what looks like the final cut in a plant's life can just be the beginning of a new plant. Isn't nature amazing?! #gardening

Finally finished an #upcycling project his week that was a long time coming. It's a rug/door mat made entirely from old socks that were beyond mending. I saw the instructions on YT and it looked much faster to make and much less tedious than it turned out in reality. I still like the result and am happy I've used up at least part of my lonely old sock collection.

I made some upcycled wide-legged trousers! A while ago, I bought a nice piece of curtain/cushion fabric from an op shop (thrift store) that just had a small square missing. I couldn't find a pattern I liked in the shops so I took one off my favourite denim trousers and adapted it to make the legs wider. I did a trial cut on some old bed sheets and had to adapt the pattern some more on the back side. In the end, I used the front of the trial cut for the blue trousers and added the honeycomb f...

#sewing At the moment, I practice making patterns from clothes I own. I trialled making a skirt from a pattern, using an old bed sheet. It turned out nice enough that I thought it would be a shame not to wear it, only it had some stains and discolourations. So I dug through my box of scraps to cover those and found a piece of fabric I bought years ago for making a kids mermaid costume. Never knew what to do with the leftover piece until now: JELLYFISH! The more hostile the world gets, the more...

#CovidNZ If you're planning on getting a Covid booster this winter, please be aware that Health NZ has just changed their recommendations today. Under additional doses, it now says that healthy people between the ages of 30-64 years are not generally recommended to have extra doses. 🀯 In the pop up box about exceptions it says that you can get a booster IF YOU REQUEST IT. I've already heard of people who were turned away at their pharmacy after IMAC (immunisation advisory centr...

While our govt doesn't give a fig about (Long) Covid, the NZ Health survey has at least added questions about Covid and LC. With a bit of prompting and a new wave hitting the motu, they've finally published the results. The data relies on self-reporting as getting a formal diagnosis of LC is often not possible or complex. Key findings: - Nearly 4 out of 5 adults reported ever having COVID-19. - About 1 in 11 of all adults reported ever having long COVID symptoms (11.9% of those...
