  It’s interesting to think about how many movies and TV shows could be ruined by smartphones and the internet, isn’t it? Like, so many horror films and episodes ran on the premise that the town they were in had a dark secret and the inhabitants weren’t human. Or that some strange local was actually a monster and no-one believed the protagonists. Good luck getting away with that in the era of smartphones, live-streaming and the internet in general!

  The funny thing about video game modding and ROM hacking is it’s basically legacy software development as a hobby. You’re adding features and changes to a project whose original developers have long left and who basically provided no documentation at all. In other words, it’s like a software engineering job from hell. But that challenge and awkwardness is all part of the fun… #gamedev #modding #romhacking

  Gonna be honest, if the universe is a simulation it’s awfully poorly designed. Like, why should climate change even be possible? Why have these terrible physics? Just do what Donkey Kong Bananza or Mario Odyssey do and have damage done reset over time. Or like Zelda with the Blood Moon cycle. Wouldn’t it be much better world design if every 24 hours, the atmosphere reset, water was pure again, all resources were renewed and microplastics vanished?

  So LinkedIn added a button to report AI slop. https://www.404media.co/linkedin-introduces-a-seems-like-ai-slop-button/ But is any content on LinkedIn not slop to begin with? I suspect at least 90% of that site is AI at this point, and about 98% is basically slop in general.

  A word of advice for anyone with an online presence, especially on sites like #Substack and #Medium… Get your own website, and syndicate to those platforms after posting on your own. That way, you’re not at the whims of some faceless company prone to future enshittification. You won’t get cancelled because you said/did something the platform owners dislike offline. Companies won’t ignore fair use as often. And you have full control over the design and features. #indieweb #webdevelopment

  Have to be honest, never liked how many social media platforms just ban anyone who was controversial/implicated in questionable behaviour elsewhere. Like yes you don’t want to support criminals, but sometimes they still do good work in their field. It’s not impossible to find books and films and TV shows by creators that turned out to be terrible people, like a certain wizard related franchise. Personally, I think the best way to handle this is… #socialmedia #youtube

  Gonna be honest, it’s not wrong to have a limited taste in video games (or any other form of art or media). There are people who just like Mario or Zelda. People who just read Marvel or DC comics. People who just listen to one musician or band, etc. So long as you’re not getting annoyed that the one series or creator you care about isn’t putting out work 24/7, who cares? Let people enjoy things the way they want to.

  Gonna be honest, the most depressing thing at the moment is how I feel like I’m never part of any group or community. YouTubers for any series? Nope. Game developers and modders? Nope. Writers and bloggers and journalists? Nope. Techies and software engineers? Nope. Every field I’m in and hobby I have, I just see the in crowd having the time of their lives with no recognition at all. It’s like I can get likes and retweets, but never anything more than that.

  Gonna be blunt here… we cannot afford a second Covid style pandemic. We cannot afford another 3 years of lockdowns. If this Hantavirus thing leaves that ship, society is absolutely screwed, especially with the current leaders in charge. Keep that ship and everyone on it in quarantine until things get better.
