*Sometimes* surveillance is good. I keep hearing about how we can't have automated traffic enforcement because of privacy laws and concerns, but we absolutely need it. Automated traffic enforcement - lowers speeds - decreases number of red-light runners - removes cars from bus lanes - is objective and safe compared to police officers It saves lives and makes our cities a better place to be. #RoadSafety #Privacy #Surveillance #AutomatedTrafficEnforcement

RE: https://social.coop/@Anibyl/116811493592472920 Today I left home to ride a short version of this via Harrison Lake and Pemberton, should take me about a week? I'm trying to make it all the way to Agassiz and cross the terrifying Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge first thing in the morning when there's little traffic. It started drizzling in the afternoon, so I'm hiding at a pub squished between farm fields. #bikepacking

Yesterday several of us at Camp Coffee Club gathered together to help each other with bike issues by sharing knowledge and tools. Trued my wheels, helped people set up tubeless and change spacers, maybe learned how to bleed brakes? Good times. #BikeTooter #CoffeeOutside

    What changed for the BC's e-bike rebate participants: · +40 km/week of riding · -17 km/week of driving · -17% in emissions · -12% in travel costs · +13% in physical activity https://news.ubc.ca/2025/09/bc-e-bike-rebates-benefits/ This is a clear win, but the program needs funding. #UBC #ebike #rebate #BikeTooter #OneLessCar #BC #cycling

The bike shop in Lakeport is not doing a great job. Weird radial lacing, no front derailleurs on 2x drivetrains, missing brake pads? Someone needs to hire a new mechanic. #BikeTooter #LifeIsStrange

“Using AI is not worse for the environment than eating burgers or driving” Guess what, I don't do either, and the environment is not improving. Focusing on personal responsibility is a false narrative — don't spread it. We need systemic solutions such as industry regulations and worker protections.

“AI is a harmful but useful tool” You can say the same about slavery, patriarchy, fossil fuels, exploitation, theft, colonialism. Even when you're using it for good, you're also using it for evil.

The downtown Costco in Vancouver praised by @TheWarOnCars@mastodon.social is unfortunately located on a 5-lane one-way stroad, which makes it difficult to cycle to. “Biking there is a hassle”, my partner said. The best advice I got is to bike 100m on a busy sidewalk (which is illegal and challenging on a loaded bike). #BikeYVR
