  @rauschma when Matthew wrote this in 2017 I sent him screenshots of Fira Code in Vim admirably rendering ligatures correctly: rendering them in Haskell mode but, crucially, *not* rendering them in HTML mode. His fear, “any global ligature substitution is guaranteed to be semantically wrong part of the time“ seemed misplaced since editors seemed much smarter than this.   @Rachel_Thorn@queer.party I’d like to help and it should be straightforward to figure out how to change the UI, but the code pretty tightly intertwines the graphical UI elements with the Pi’s cameras so I can’t run modifications without a Pi. If I buy a Raspberry Pi 4 with two cameras https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/camera-module-3/ and a 7” display https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/touch-display-2/ should that be enough to reproduce your setup?

To learn how to edit a post you've already made, see https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-edit-posts-in-mastodon/ for a screenshot (basically, you find the three-dots menu under your post, and one of the items in that menu is "Edit"). Editing a toot will send you to the same interface as composing a new toot, so at that point, follow explanation in the video above....

  @Rachel_Thorn@queer.party 🫶 Just a small correction, we had to turn off boost analysis for @PleaseCaptionBot a couple of years ago when Mastodon got editing because edits don't propagate across servers in certain conditions, and it was annoying folks to be told incorrectly that they boosted something without alt text. (Makes sense, the bot shouldn't have any filters on language. When it asks to follow someone it asks for all their toots minus their boosts (since it doesn't analyze their boosts, for now).)

  @Rachel_Thorn@queer.party if you’re comfortable sharing, are there examples of Japanese dubs on Netflix your child likes? (I’ve watched a couple of Netflix anime with Japanese Audio Description tracks and that was a really interesting experience as a language learner, so this question is in the same vein.)
