Mostly curious if I can get it going how well it will perform compared to swapping the compact flash card to FreeDOS and running Doom there.

Partially due to inherent OS overhead no matter how efficient the kernel is and the S3 Virge's sheer Virge-ness means any hardware acceleration that could assist performance is likely to make it actually run slower. (GLQuake runs slower than WinQuake on this thing at the same resolution, lol.) I love the Virge. It's charmingly bad and a "good" period 3D card would cost me more than I paid for the entire system, I might as well embrace the Virge jank. :ac_laughter: )
