@howtophil@mastodon.social @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org (I can't imagine it'll run faster. Partially due to inherent OS overhead no matter how efficient the kernel is and the S3 Virge's sheer Virge-ness means any hardware acceleration that could assist performance is likely to make it actually run slower.
(GLQuake runs slower than WinQuake on this thing at the same resolution, lol.)
I love the Virge. It's charmingly bad and a "good" period 3D card would cost me more than I paid for the entire system, I might as well embrace the Virge jank. :ac_laughter: )

@howtophil@mastodon.social @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org unfortunately, the S3 Virge strikes again: it doesn't support VESA fully enough without the UNIVBE TSR (which essentially hotpatches the card's BIOS in RAM) under DOS for NetBSD's VESA support :ac_laughter:

@gourd@indieverse.social @netbsd@mastodon.sdf.org I mean, Doom runs on potatoes. So, I have hope it'll run on a 386 :)
