I've gotten so many free things over the years just by being nice by default. Little things like putting "I hope you have a wonderful day! : )" into the special instructions field on an order. Or remembering someone who served me before in a restaurant and asking them how they're doing. I don't want or expect anything from being nice. My reward is knowing that it might brighten someone's day, even if only for a moment. Receiving free stuff is just a bonus. Just be nice to each other.
