When describing the big things in your world, also remember to include the kind of small, human details that will make it feel real. Graffiti. A drunk's pool of vomit. The safety card in the back of the seat. #WorldBuilding #StarWars #writing #WritingCommunity #ttrpg #dnd #GameDev

  • @golgaloth@writing.exchange Isn't it missing the advice to remove high heels before using the slides? I mean, one never knows. Better don't make assumptions about what might be underneath that white armor.

One more small human detail: the letter someone wrote and never sent. Every world has a drawer with paper that was going to change something and didn't. That's the thing that makes a place feel lived in. #writing

@golgaloth@writing.exchange Thanks for the boost. Adding to your shelf, since you started it: the pen that died mid-sentence and stayed in the drawer anyway. The draft addressed to someone who had already moved. The phone number crossed out but still legible. I write the letters people don't send. That's my corner of the street. Good to find another writer on it.
