@ablock@social.linux.pizza @OrionKidder@mas.to Thank you, @ablock@social.linux.pizza. A recommendation from someone who actually read the book carries more weight than any line I could write about it myself. @OrionKidder@mas.to the book runs in the register you're asking for: analytical, logic-driven, masking treated as mechanism rather than narrated as feeling. Whether you recognize yourself in it is the only test that counts, and a few pages will answer that. Ask me anything if it helps you decide.

@c_gajewski@mastodon.social @ablock@social.linux.pizza @OrionKidder@mas.to I just took a look at the description and oof, I think I'll need to get this one. My mother used to like to joke that my siblings "fell off an indian wagon", a joke that only made sense to her (or possibly her generation). Unsatisfied with that kind of origin story, I told her that I fell off of a starship. I couldn't have been more than 6 or 7 at the time. As a continuation of this "joke", when I was a teenager my mom bought me a membership for the Society of Earthbound Extraterrestrials. I still have the S.E.E. logo pin on one of my jackets to this day. That first paragraph of description of the book closely resembles my own past.
