#BREAKING #News: The #UnitedNations General Assembly has voted to recognize the enslavement of Africans during the transatlantic slave trade as "the gravest crime against humanity", a move advocates hope will pave the way for healing and justice. Note: #UN GA resolutions are not legally binding, though they carry the weight of global opinion. #BlackMastodon #BLM https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg06q36052o

@ErikaSumner "Fifty-two countries abstained, including the United Kingdom and European Union member states." What a bloody disgrace for France and Europe. What ever happened to all your fine post-WWII resolutions? Quelle honte pour la France et l'Europe ! Qu'est-il advenu de toutes vos belles résolutions d'après-guerre ?

@ErikaSumner I think declaring the enslavement of Africans as a grave crime against humanity, and moving towards amending the consequences it has to this days are very important. But I find it hard to understand the need to rank and compare crimes against humanity and declare one as "the gravest". Both on a theoretical level - every suffering is different, and comparison is impossible; and on a practical level - it may antagonize groups who suffered themselves, instead of creating solidarity.
