To be true, I think there might be one more factor: people just don’t read that many books anymore. I mean, it takes _time_ to read a book. We all got (almost) as much time, as we used to have 20-30 years ago. But we choose to spend it differently. Social media, a little game on the cell phone…
I used to read a loooot. Now I am glad if I read 2-3 books during a 4-weeks vacation.
(Fedi and Pokemon Go is where _my_ time gets lost.)

@theVedek @Impossible_PhD That's sad but likely true. I've been reading eBooks on my phone as a way to avoid non-stop doomscrolling. I just finished my fifth anthology in about three weeks. But physical books? I read them when I'm lying in bed. That's it, really. Maybe, occasionally in my recliner. God, I love the way a physical book smells, but still don't make the time for them like I used to. I'm part of the problem.

@theVedek @jrdepriest @Impossible_PhD A lot of countries flooded with workism lead to people not having or spending all that much time reading anything that requires sustained attention.
