But maybe...a cage of cards, with some kind of shared network backplane, and even a shared storage backplane...then each card runs a hyper-specialized set of daemons (like, one's DHCP, one's DNS, etc.), and some single card manages all the rest.... Wait.. Are we re-inventing mainframes? :) (I know not really, but... this thought experiment gets pretty silly pretty fast.)
