Welcome, Daniel! I’ll try to break it down for you…
1. Mastodon is like other social media networks in that you can use it from a web browser or from a mobile app.
2. The difference with Mastodon is that there are multiple mobile apps. There’s one created by the organization that admins Mastodon, and then lots of others (including my own).
3. Because Mastodon is open source, the user interface for the browser version and all of the mobile apps are different. (This is a feature, not a quirk.) So knowing the specific name of the app you’re using enables someone like me to explicitly guide you to the solution.
I see you mentioned being on a mobile phone. What kind are you using (iPhone, Android, etc.)? And what is the name of the app you are using?
Point me to those two things and I’ll make sure you know how to follow hashtags.
And don’t be shy. Lots of folks need help, and lots of us will answer the call.

@markwyner@mas.to @TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world @fname@kamloops.social @zazzoo@mstdn.ca thank you so much!
I am using an iPhone.
So I’m curious to know, does one just have to try all the apps to see which one one likes?

Not sure what’s relevant, but in case it informs my decision I’m sharing it. It feels a little clunky here compared to the experience with threads, which is where I have been since it first started. I’m a fan of the app and have built a strong algorithm. But sometimes it feels like an echo chamber.
Thanks again!
