And NO I do not wanna hear your boilerplate Hawkeye diss, he was the goddamn HEART of the Avengers for a long time and had an actual funny blue-collar personality and the movies totally vanillified him. Such a fucking waste. I AM STILL MAD.

For those who like weird arcane silver age background factoids, Hawkeye started as a heel, like a semi-regular nemesis of IRON MAN, of all people. He was a just a circus performer, cuz really good at ARCHERY, duh, but with these new hero guys popping up, he thought he might be able to do that, but the Black Widow, then a SOVIET AGENT and also-Iron-Man-nemesis, seduced him and he fell in love with her and basically became her henchman for a bit. The shit she had him do gnawed at him, though, so asked to join the Avengers in Issue 16 - ISSUE SIXTEEN, per previous point of emphasis - as an attempt to redeem himself.
