:thonking: has anyone had experience with moving strawberry plants during their winter dormancy?
My winters are not mild, but I should have some time in between the first killing frost and the ground being too frozen to work, and I need to do some work next year that will necessitate moving the plants or replacing them.
If I time this right, I can do it between the October rush and the January dead season.

@hexamander@infosec.exchange I have done that. I wait until after the first frost when the leaves have mostly died back. Trim the stems back to an inch or so above the crown. Transplant and cover with mulch (straw is ideal) leaving the crown exposed. In my experience they bear the following spring but tend to be about 3-4 weeks behind the ones that didn't get moved. I lose perhaps 1 in 15 transplants. I grow everbearing, not sure how this would affect June-bearing plants.
