@jaj@mastodon.social The #USA used to be a great place to visit. I went there several times on business around the turn of the century. I liked it so much that I took Mrs Wife out there, and we made serious plans to emigrate. Only 9/11 stopped us — the INS, understandably, slammed the shutters down, and we felt the world had changed and become too unpredictable for us to make the move. I wouldn't go out there now, though. One of several reasons I've let my passport lapse is to make it harder for my employer to ask me to visit. It wasn't until 2015 that I felt relief that we'd stayed at home, rather than missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime. @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange

@jaj@mastodon.social @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I'd like to see the Grand Canyon and the Golden Gate bridge, but they're both in this unwelcoming country...

@jaj@mastodon.social @hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange I’m with you. Rudeness and aggression at the airport, racism wherever you turn, risk of being shot for being non-white, marginalisation of trans folk, sensory overload everywhere. The cities might be less MAGA but I hate cities. Also the reason I won’t cruise: Americans*. So I’ll never get to see all that luscious countryside. *I know some good ones and have friends over there, so no need to not-all me.
