My aunt’s ice maker had a failure in the auger drive coupling. A plastic bit that mates to the output drive sheared on the inner portion that seats in the housing. I’m guessing somehow it became bound in such a way that the torque overcame the material strength. I’m going to see if I can find a replacement part. It’s a bit beyond my modeling capability, even being in the freezer I would still be concerned with food safety. I’m guessing I’ll have to buy an entire new assembly though.
