@yy on why urban grocery stores should prioritize bike parking over car parking: - You don't need a car for groceries - Grocery access is an equity issue - Car parking is expensive and subsidizes the rich - We can have 10 more customers park per spot - Induced demand works both ways - Spillover benefits - Built for the future https://yyahn.com/wiki/Bike-parking-at-urban-grocery-stores/ #urbanplanning #bikeTooter #cycling

@yy ideas to improve urban grocery bike parking: 1. Make it plentiful 2. Make it convenient 3. Install good racks 4. Accommodate all bikes 5. Cover the racks if possible 6. Make it visible and well-lit. 7. Connect to the bike network. 8. Build for the future https://yyahn.com/wiki/Bike-parking-at-urban-grocery-stores/

@markstos @yy There’s a shopping center with a grocery store and I ride my bike there often. So do many other people, judging by how many bikes I see there. But they don’t have bike racks. We have to lock our bikes to No Parking signs and stuff.

@markstos @yy Why do groceries with a car? - I do not want to do it every day - Planning and buying for the full week - I can't carry all those groceries on the bike - Only parking there once or twice a week That is why. Personally I can do groceries by walking, as there is a supermarket only 150 meters away and a bakery only 200 meters so for fresh bread and small stuff I walk.
