We dropped 32bit Windows support in GIMP 3.2.2. Unfortunately, this meant also losing our 32bit-only TWAIN scanner plug-in. Since the release, there've been several user reports asking where the scanning feature went. I decided to dive into the 64bit Windows Image Acquistion (WIA) API to see if I could make a new scanning plug-in. After some struggles dealing with the sparse documentation, I finally have a proof of concept! Hopefully we can get it polished up and restore scanning on Windows.
