Lately I've been toying around with spectral compression audio effects a lot and I'm now at a point where I'm kinda starting to hate FFT based audio processing. FFT effects always have awful resolution on low frequencies and are completely overkill at high frequencies, which is like opposite to how music works.

With small window sizes it can barely tell apart 200 hz and 400 hz while between 14000 and 15000 hz it has it can differentiate with several frequency bands. The former is an entire octave of clearly defined notes while the latter roughly spans a singular note and is so high in pitch we can barely even recognize it. It's like if your monitor had 1 pixel at the bottom, 2 pixels in the next row up, 3 pixels next up and so on until hitting your total pixel count.
