@Paulatics@mstdn.ca sounds like a problem as old as time. New scapegoat, another symptom of societal issues. I strongly believe that if the root causes were removed, this wouldn't be as big of an issue. Nothing is being done in terms of education for net positive use, but that itself won't solve it. Also nothing is being done to show people in situations which make them believe otherwise, that ethical ways of progress are both possible, easier and better. Truth never existed for majority of the world.

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca There is no "ethical use case" for this new generation of AI (LLM and generative) and i'll tell you why. It's because this entire iteration of AI is purposed for one thing: human economic replacement. It "assists" us, thus learning from us how to BE us and then, to *replace* us as economically valuable entities. *That* is what is driving the *trillions* of dollars in global corporate investment in this project: Human intellectual labor replacement by digital simulcrum.

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca Thank you! I wish all of our legislators had your inquisitive and sceptical mind. (Edited to change “politicians” to “legislators” 😀)

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca “What worries me isn’t smart computers—it’s stupid humans, using the crudest energy-sucking generative AI tools to make themselves dumber, debase creativity and undermine the very concept of truth itself.” Very well put; me too.

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca as a retired freelance/contract software developer with 40 years of experience… THANK YOU for being a sane voice in the midst of this madness.

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca Just as calculators once vastly expanded people’s ability to perform calculations, LLM-AIs are expanding people’s capacity for foolishness and prejudice.

@Paulatics@mstdn.ca especially beware of MBAs in management positions. They are easily hoodwinked: they paid for an MBA!
