My friends tell me I'm naïve when I tell them I don't think my students are using AI. But I do check. They get screened by multiple apps, both in Blackboard and outside it.
What I hear from my students about AI is resentment and anxiety. They resent AI being part of their education. They are anxious because they believe it has prepared them poorly. Being a sycophant rather than an educator. They are also angry that AI preys on people with mental illness, and the outcomes of that.
I know there are a whole lot of doomers out there who think the current generation is a flock of mindless, AI-driven zombies. Let me tell you, they aren't.
They are a group of people who have been failed on several levels. Smart, capable, but lost on how to get a foothold in the current stupid system. Please help them.
