If one can judge from the SNP's election campaign launch this morning, Swinney is buying them a way to back out of pursuing a new referendum by doubling down on his "SNP majority" argument instead of "independence majority". It is highly unlikely they will win a majority and they will likely need to team up with the Scottish Greens again.
