Dear Ethernet nerds, Last Sunday our Unify router went belly up at 04:00:00 exactly (no logs indicating something weird). But at the same time my 2 servers where unreachable and complaining about failing DNS resolution. Is it thinkable the Router was in such a deplorable state that it kept the (costumer grade) Switch busy?

@yschaeff@fosstodon.org This is definitely possible. While the hardware probably wasn't like yours, I once came across a situation where a certain desktop would packet storm a TP-link switch every 1-2 months. It was always the same 'nothing works' call from the mom&pop shop. The problem went away when we added a separate network card into that machine and disabled the motherboard's. Technically, I don't think a switch should be overwhelmed like that but I have empirical experience that it can happen.
