The way that software repos use the words "branch" and "upstream" suggests a certain confusion on how rivers work.

@evening This is actually more about transporting wood. You create a branch... by cloning the trunk? And then you push it up the stream to where the other trees are... and then it gets "merged" with the trunk?? Okay, now my own explanation attempt has confused me.
